This change request collects change proposals emanating from the validation.
JP(HIKE): For symbol S00871, S00847 is referred to as "an example of", however they are exactly the same symbol! Therefore, both should have the same S-number and amended to be a single entry to the database. - Please regard this future work.
(Secretary's note: Kept as it is for the time being. To be considered later.)
Comment by the Secretary 2001-10-24: The symbols S00846 and S00847 are two forms of the same concept "autotransformer" called "general symbols" since they appeared in a section in the publication called "general symbols". Symbol S00846 can in fact be considered as a general symbol (independant of the number of phases), but it is more questionable if that makes sense for S00847. Symbols S00870 and S00871 are OK.
Considering that the concept is the primary issue, it can happen that the same graphical presentation is duplicated. From this perspective S00846 + S00847 on one side, and S00870 + S00871 on the other hand are acceptable. The problem is that S00847 can not be drawn without explicitely showing the number of connections. Deleting "general symbol" from the name does not help, because then it would be inappropriate to speak about form 1 and form 2 of the same symbol.
Proposal: Leave it as it is, until a major review is carried out.
JP(HIKE): This comment is not for S00892, but for S001231 which is listed as an example of S00892; S01231 bears the same name as S00892, but it is for microwave which should be included in some fields of S01231. (Secretary's note: This comment is covered by C00073.)
JP(HIKE): For S00898, add "battery" to usage; should name be "cell", because it is for primary and secondary. This symbol is also used as d.c. power supply in general (which is not always a cell) in circuit diagram. If we distiguish with S01341 and S01342, we need another symbol number with the same graphics. (Secretary's note: The symbols cover three technically different concepts and should therefore be dealt with as such. The general use of the symbol for a d.c. supply should be considered, and the comment is therefore added to C0024. "Battery" is added to usage on S00898.)
Proposal 2001-10-24: Introduce a new symbol based on S00898, but with the name: DC supply, general symbol"
JP(HIKE): For S01198, S00583 is cited but the winding of S01198 is consist of 3-half-circles. This will be aligned by a separate change request.
(Secreatary's note: An application note should be added to S00583 that the number of half-circles should be added to suite the circumstances.)
Secretary's note 2001-10-24: This proposal is covered by C00065.
Secretarys comment 2002-03-04: The subjects dealt with are now covered except the proposal to include a new symbol for "DC supply, general symbol". This proposal is now introduced as S01423, and is now submitted for evaluation.

Submitted for evaluation 2001-10-25. Closing for evalution 2001-11-23.
AT(WGAS): Symbol S00847 and S00871: The both symbols are general equal. It seems to be sufficient to show only one symbol in the database, with an explanation to use in the application note.
DE(RESC): We should use the normal data base procedure.
--------------------------
Submitted for new evaluation 2002-03-04, with the scope limited to S01423. Closing for evaluation 2002-04-30.
AT(WGAS): Symbol 01423 is equal with S00898 and has in the old (paper) standard the number 06-15-01 and it is named as "cell" or "battery". In consultation with my national commitee we came to the result that we all know this symbol as cell or battery. It should not be a general symbol for DC-supply, because, for example, the DC-output of a rectifier is usualy shown with a "=" or with text "12VDC". Using the symbol S01423 in this case, can cause a mistake that there is a battery in this gadget. Another argument is that a battery and a rectifier produces different qualities of electrical tension (voltage), and this could be shown with different symbols.
JP(HIKE): We confirmed the proposed symbol S01423 is identical with S00898 except its name. Let me suggest combine the two or cancel S01423 and amend S00898 with a new name such as "Primary cell; ideal DC supply, general symbol".
See also our comments on C00089.
DK(KATH): We agree with the proposal saying that the old fashioned symbol for batteri also can be used for "DC supply, general symbol", but due to the heavy discussion it also can be usefull with the extended procedure.
Conclusion by the Secretary: Taking into account the concerns from AT, the modified proposal from JP to change the name to "Ideal DC Supply" seems justified. With this change the symbol will be processed in accordance with the extended procedure. |
