Type of request:

Technical modification

Request status level:

Resolved

Proposal:

This change request is intended to satisfy the following requirements:

1. Introduce DC and AC as alternatives to symbols S00067 (Direct current) and S00107 (Alternating current).

2. Move the examples (Symbols S00070, ...71, ...72) to the former "description" column. This can now be implemented as a move of the symbols to application notes.

This change is carried out in the following way:

For "Direct current":

1. Copy S00067 to a new symbol S01401 that will replace S00067.

2. Create a new symbol S01402, comprising the letter symbol DC.

3. Make the two symbols Form 1 and Form 2 of the same concept "Direct current".

4. Create a new application note A00259 comprising the existing A00022 and the suggested new examples.

5. Use A00259 in S01401 and S01402.

At a possible release of the symbols S01401 and S01402, withdraw S00067 and redirect existing links (there are 17) from S00067 to S01401.

For "Alternating current":

1. Copy S00107 to a new symbol S01403. Let this symbol replace S00107, and also S00070, ...71 and ...72.
2. Create a new symbol S01404, comprising the letter symbol AC.

3. Make the two symbols Form 1 and Form 2 of the same concept "Alternating current".

4. Create a new application note A00258 comprising the existing application notes A00023, ...24, ...25 and ...26 and the suggested new examples.

5. Use A00258 in S01403 and S01404.

At a possible release of the symbols S01403 and S01404, withdraw the replaced symbols and redirect existing links (there are 28) from the replaced symbols to the new S01403.

In addition to these changes based on the Task II proposal, the following is also suggested:

1. In symbols S01402 and S01404 introduce a remark explaining the difference between the letter symbols AC, DC and the abbriviations a.c. and d.c. This is a subject that has earlier been discussed in TC3.

2. For symbols S01401 and S01403 introduce a remark making references to IEC 61268 and ISO/IEC 10646 about the implementation of these symbols in defined character sets.

Reason:

This is part of the Task II proposal for change of IEC 60617-2, clause 2.

For reference to the original proposal, see the attached document C00057proposal.pdf.

FI(TAVI): No comments

DE(RESC): I agree to the proposed changes and would prefer to handle them with the normal database procedure (that means the short procedure).

DK(KATH): We had to write "AC 100 kHz...600 kHz" instead of "AC 100...600 kHz" in accordance to ISO/IEC Directive part 2 Annex I point n). Otherwise I agree to the proposed changes and would prefer to handle them with the normal database procedure.

CN(GUTI): I agree to the proposal.

AT(WGAS): Agree to the proposal.

Conclusion by the Secretary: The observation by DK(KATH) is quite correct. I have changed to "AC 100 kHz ... 600 kHz" in A00258. With this correction the change request is submitted for validation.
