Request identity number: |

Applies to: |
S00471, S00472, S01455, S01456 |

Type of request: |
Technical modification |

Request status level: |
Resolved |

Proposal: |
Replace the existing symbols S00471 and S00472 with S01455 and S01456.
Alternatively, it might be possible to define the new symbols as "other forms" to the present ones (or vice versa) to allow a smooth change-over.
|

Reason: |
The proposal has been received from Iceland accompanied with the following motivation:
Symbols S00471 "Two-way single pole switch" and S00472 "Intermediate switch" are out of line with the rest of the switch symbols, that is they take a lot of space in the drawings and are unpopular to use in Iceland because of this. It is not possible to draw them next to other switch symbols close to a wall.
For many years designers have been using more simple versions of these symbols and are still using them in many cases and are asking why these "larger" symbols must be used that don't fit as well in the drawings.

Comments at validation: |
Submitted for validation 2002-01-18.
FI(TAVI): (In order to distinguish the lines in the upper right corner could the upper qualifying figures be little larger e.g. the distance between lines at least 1M.) I delete my comment.
DE(RESC): One of the arguments from Iceland was to reduce the size of the symbols, now we start the comments of the validation status with enlarging! |

Voting at validation: |
FI(TAVI): No. We envestigated that we have had no difficulties with the present symbols and new symbols take always long chage ower period with difficulties.
DE(RESC): NO! In our opinion the arguments do not legitimate new symbols:
AT(WGAS): Yes to define Symbols S01455 and S01456 as "other forms". No to replace symbols S00471; S00472.
JP(HIKE): Abstain
DK(KATH): Yes to define Symbols S01455 and S01456 as "other forms". No to replace symbols S00471; S00472.
Conclusion 2003-03-31 by the Secretary: Applying the rules for evaluation of an FDIS results in the following:
Total number of cast votes: 4 (abstentions are not counted)
