Proposal: |
Introduce symbols for voltage detector and diverter switches for voltage and current.
Secretary's note:
voltage detector: portable device used to detect the presence or the absence of the operating voltage (high and low voltage at a.c. or d.c.) and used to verify that the installation is ready for earthing
NOTE - These devices are generally described as either capacitive type or resistive type. (IEC 61243-1, ed. 2.0 (2003-10))
voltage detector of capacitive type: device whose operation is based on the current passing through the stray capacitance to earth (ground)
NOTE - The term voltage detector is used in this document for voltage detector of capacitive type. (IEC 61243-1, ed. 2.0 (2003-10))
[Because of these definitions a reference and an adaptation to S01411, lead through capacitor, could be considered.]
diverter switch: switching device used in conjunction with a tap selector to carry, make or break currents in circuits which have already been selected
NOTE Diverter switches are sometimes called arcing switches. (IEC 60214-1, ed. 1.0 (2003-02))

-------------------------------------------------
JP(HIKE): Support the proposal to be worked in normal procedure.
DE(RESC): OK; normal procedure
AT(WGAS):No. This Symbols could be createt by combinations of existing basic- symbols. There is no need to add new symblos to the database.
FI(ARSI): Support proposal for symbol S01843 with normal procedure.
For the proposals S01844 and S01845 FI support principle but we call extended procedure.
Proposed symbol S01844 is too similar with symbols S00483 Lamp, general symbol and S00965 Lamp, general symbol.
We see two possibilities:
1. Modify symbols S01844 and S01845 (for example add letter "V" to voltage circuit and "A" current circuit)
2. Modify symbol S00483 (for example delete circle and leave "X")
In symbols S00483 and S00965 graphical representation is same. So can we combine application notes and classes, etc. and continue with single symbol?
NL(JOVI):S01843=Accept, Normal procedure. S01844=Reject, too similar with symbols S00483 Lamp, general symbol and S00965 Lamp, general symbol. S01845=Reject, too similar with symbol S00175 (and S00483, S00965)
AU(CACR) The function of the switch is a selector switch within the symbol group Multi-position switch. The title of the symbol should be "multi-position selector switch for voltage and current"
NO(ES): I do follow the FI proposal.
IT(DISE): Symbol S01843: I support the proposal because this device is very frequently in use. Normal procedure.
Symbols S01844 and S01845: I support the proposal because also theese devices are very frequently in use, bat with modification (1) proposed by FI(ARSI). Normal procedure.
DK(KATH): Perhaps the relation between S01411 and S01843 should be considered, but OK; normal procedure.
-------------------------------------------------
Conclusion by the Secretary 2005-09-12:
S01843 (Simplicity voltage detector): This symbol is supported by a simple majority and will be validated in accordance with the normal procedure.
S01844 and S01845: The need for the symbol is manifested by a simple majority (7 of 9). However, the actual design of the symbol is rejected (only 4 of the 9 accept the design as is) and 3 are calling for the extended procedure. Attention is drawn to the similarity between S01844 and the symbols for "lamp". There is actually also a similarity between S01845 and the symbol for "actuator (operated by hand wheel)" S00175.
Evidently, the design of these symbols is presently not the best for introduction as new symbols into the IEC 60617. They will therefore not be continued for validation now.
I will consult the proposing JP NC if they see a possibility to modify the symbols, e.g. in line with the suggestion from FI (1). AU points at the relation to the multiposition complex switches, which should also be taken into consideration for the design. (If someone else in the VT has a suggestion, please forward to me.) Depending on how close a modified proposal is to the old one the process for these symbols will continue either as a new propsal or by the extended procedure.
The suggestion from FI to align the symbols for "lamp" S00483 and S00965 because of their identical graphical representations and integrate them into one will be looked into and possibly result in a separate CR. |

Comments at validation: |
Submitted for validation 2005-09-12 of symbol S01843 ONLY. (Symbols S01844 and S01845 are kept as references for tracability reasons.)
------------------------------------------------- |

Voting at validation: |
JP(HIKE): Yes for S01843
AT(WGAS): Yes to Symbol S01843. No to S01844 and S01845.
FI(ARSI): Yes for S01843
AU9CACR): Yes for S01843, No to S1844 and S1845
NO(ES): Yes for S01843
NL(JOVI): Yes for S01843
CN(GUTI): Yes for S01843
SE(via PASV): Yes for S01843
