Proposal:

Introduce symbols for multiposition selector switches for voltage and current.

Multi-position selector (diverter) switch: switching device used in conjunction with a tap selector to carry, make or break currents in circuits which have already been selected.

Multi-position selector (diverter) switches are sometimes called arcing switches (IEC 60214-1, Ed. 1 (2003-02).

Reason:

These symbols are proposed because there are no other applicable symbols in IEC 60617.

This proposal is a continuation of a part of the change request C00134. Please refer to that CR for background information. Further information obtained from the JP NC is included the attached C00159_information.pdf

General comments:

Extended procedure: 3/933/CDV and 3/934/CDV.

Comments at evaluation:

Submitted for evaluation 2007-05-07.
-------------------------------------------------

DE(RESC): We do not support this CR.This Symbols could be createt by combinations of existing basic- symbols. There is no need to add new symbols to the database which are not in line with the basic symbol for a switch S00227.

AT(WGAS): No to symbols S01844, and S01845. The Symbols looks like existing Symbols with different meanings and could be mixed. For instance Symbol for lamp. The requirement for this symbols is covered by existing symbols for swtches in the database. Normal procedure.

JP(HIKE): Japanese NC believes that not only elementally graphical symbols but also symbols for the complex devices which are not represented by simple combination of existing symbols are needed.
Therefore, the proposal should be processed by nomad database procedure.

FI(ARSI): FI NC support the proposal. Normal database procedure.

CN(GUTI):Normal database procedure.

DK(KATH): Yes to the proposal, but extended procedure.

SE (TOHA): We do not support this CR.This Symbols could be createt by combinations of existing basic symbols.

NO(ES): I am doubtful to this proposal. We have in the database a number of symbols for selectors that may be used as the proposed symbols are used as shown in the attached document. The graphical layout proposed gives me an impression that here is shown the physical device to turn around on the instrument.

--------------------------------------------------
Conclusion by the Secretary 2007-08-07: The opinions are really split:

For the procedure: 1 extended; 3 normal; and 3 abstentions (no clearly expressed opinion)

For the symbols: 2 yes; 3 no and 2 abstentions

In this situation I prefer to consult the National Commitees through the extended procedure.

Document 3/858/CD was circulated 2007-08-17, closing 2007-11-16.
