Proposal: |
Introduce a new symbol for concept: Trace heating temperature sensor
|

Reason: |
FI NC propose to standardize graphical symbol for temperature sensor for trace heating applications (e.g. snow melting, floor warming, hot water lines, etc.).
This proposed graphical symbol is already used by IEC TC 27 in draft IEC 62395-2/Ed.1 Electrical resistance trace heating systems for industrial and commercial applications – Part 2: Application guide for system design, installation and maintenance (27/845/CD)

Secretary comment: The symbol was updated 2012-05-07
FI(ARSI): FI NC support this change request with normal database procedure
SE(PASV): SE NC does not support this CR. There is no reason to introduce a sensor symbol for this specific purpose. There is already one available in ISO standard 14617 in the form of a triangle (pointing at the place where the sensing is made) together with a letter symbol for the quantity sensed. (Go to cdb.iso.org and search for sensor symbols, and you will find symbol 752 with example X801). To get a complete unit this symbol is combined with the usual converter symbol. If IEC should introduce a sensor symbol in the database it ought to be that one, and it ought to be used also by TC27. Actually the two figure 5 and 6 should be more illustrative if they did. As far as I understand the actual standard deals only with series and parallell trace heaters (with external control unit) and not intrinsically controlled ones. Those resistive cables might need specific symbols, but TC27 seems to be satisfied with just simple lines.
DE(RESC):The DE NC does not support this CR. We are in line with the comments of SE NC
FR(LROG): FR NC supports with normal procedure with the following comment : the alternative name is confusing as the drawing does not clearly show the control unit.
DK(KATH): DK NC support the FI NC proposal to standardize a symbol in this matter, but taken the Swedish and French comments in account we say, go for the extended procedure.
JP(HIKE): The Japanese National Committee for TC 3 supports this change request.
This CR should be processed in the extended procedure, because relevant committees such as TC 27 should be consulted whether the proposed graphical suits their needs.
NO(NC): NO NC support the view of SE NC.

Secretary comment: The evaluation was closed with no clear majority for validation but with a notification that the function is represented by a symbol in ISO 14617. An additional proposal will herfore be added to the CR and it will go to extended procedure
