Applies to: |
S01915 |

Type of request: |
Technically new |

Request status level: |
Resolved |

Proposal: |
Symbol S00472 is to be replaced by a new symbol as attached and the references of application notes A00254 and A00266 to be updated.
Note that also the name is proposed to be changed. The name of S00472 is not logical; although the switch is intended to work on one of the two supply circuits to e.g. a lamp (on the “two pole side” between two switches of the type S00471 (two way single pole switch)), the device as such is bipolar and not single pole.
|

Reason: |
This change request is part of MT 60617 recommendation to harmonize the graphical symbol family "switches for installation diagrams" to make all titles, graphical presentations, descriptions, application notes to be consistent and help users of symbols to choose right symbols particular purpose.
During the preparation of this proposal MT 60617 was consulted.

FI(ARSI): FI NC support this change request with normal database procedure.
FR(LROG): FR NC support this change request with normal database procedure.
AT(WIGAS): AT NC proposes the folowing change of text: Note that also the name is proposed to be changed. The name of S00472 is not logical; although the switch is intended to work on one OF TWO LINES of ONE supply circuit to e.g. a lamp (on the “two pole side” between two switches of the type S00471 (two way single pole switch)). S01915 could be mixed with a 2-pole change over switch. Therfore ATNC does not support this change request. Normal database procedure.
DE (RESC): DENC is in line with the comments from ATNC an does not support this CR
DK(KATH): DK NC support this change request with normal database procedure.
SE(PASV): SE NC supports the proposal and proposes normal database procedure. We are open for a change to a more appropriate name, but seen as a component (disregarding its application in a circuit for switching light for stairs) it is definitely a 2-pole switch used for pole switching/pole change over. Moreover, the actual text is only foreseen as explanation in this change request.
NO(ES): NO NC support the proposal and use of normal procedure.
-------------------------------------------------
Secretary comment: The Evaluation was closed with five votes for normal database procedure and two against. The proposal will go to validation.
The proposed name of the symbol will be discussed with the proposer. The Secretary means that the function of the switch is an application of a two pole change over switch with additional internal connection which make it to swich "line A" to "line B" and "line B" to "line A".
The name may be changed for the validation.

Secretary comment:
After discussion with the proposer has the name of Symbol S01915 been changed to "Pole exchanger, two-pole".
Please note that the actual function of the concept is to exchange the connection of two poles (wires, which is equal to pole (phase)
exchange in a three phase supply circuit.
AT(WGAS): This symbol is used for an intermedian Swich between two two-way-switches in electrical illumination installation, and is supplied by only one phase.
-------------------------------------------------
Secretaries comment: The validation was closed with five votes in favour and two against the new symbol
Symbol S01915 will be standard.
The DK comment will be considered for application note A00254

Voting at validation: |
SE(PASV): SE NC votes YES.
Additional comment: I think that there is a terminolgical problem here: It is quite evident that the switch seen as a single component has two poles that can be interchanged. It is also evident that the component, if applied in an installation circuit for e.g. lighting in stairs, is connected in one single electrical phase, but that is carried by two alternate wires that are interchanged by this polechanger. In other applications it might be used for different purposes. The component has to be named after how what it is, not after how it is applied.
FI(ARSI): FI NC votes YES.
AT(WGAS): AT NC votes NO.
JP(HIKE): JP NC vote YES.
FR(LROG): FR NC vote YES
DE(RESC): DE NC vote NO
DK(KATH): DK NC votes YES, but take the essence of the SE NC into a remark. |
