Initial comment by the Secretary: There are today two methods to describe the intended functionality.
Fist of all: are we speaking about "reversing" or about "interchange of phases"? The first term can be used to describe a motor starter, the second one to describe a control device for any purpose, including a motor starter.
For a motor starter also the question whether the interchange can be made when the motor is running, or if it can only be made at stand-still is relevant. This question is, however, not taken account of in the proposal.
"Reversing" is described by a bidirectional arrow, see symbol S00301, which is the already existing symbol for reversing motorstarter, so then there would be no need for a new symbol. If necessary, the contact in that symbol could be supplemented with an indication that it has also an isolating function. The breaking function follows implicitly from the basic motor starter symbol.
"Interchange of phases" is described by symbol S00024. This symbol could be added to the symbol proposed in C00069. One way to do this is shown in C00070proposal.gif below. If this proposal is accepted, the name of the symbol could be: "Control and protective switching device, reversing; CPS, reversing", "Appareil de connexion de command de protection, inverseur, ACP, inverseur"
The proposal in R_CPS.doc uses a way to express "reversing" that has not been used before in the database. The "double contact symbol" is to my opinion not more clear or expressive than the alredy used methods, so we would not gain anything if it was introduced.
For the Validation team: Please comment on the need or desire for introduction of the concept.
Even if the symbol can be composed of existing symbols graphically, please give consideration also to the need or desirability to have the name of the concept available in the database. Will users look for this name or for something else?
Indicate also which of the proposals you prefer.
C00070proposal.pdf could be considered as a combination of existing symbols. It is more doubtful if the "double contact symbol" in R_CPS.doc can be seen so. If that is introduced the extended procedure might be considered.
DE(RESC): In addition to my comments on CR 0069 I see no reason to add such a high sophisticated combination of existing symbols to the database. So my vote on evaluation is NO.
AT(WGAS): See my comments at CR0069
FI(TAVI): See my comments at CR0069. I agree with this symbol for overview diagrams. In the future this kind of proposals should be worked together with product committees.
DK(KATH): The proposed symbol R_CPS.doc is not a good idea. To the other proposed symbol we have the same comments as written in CR0069.
NO(ES): I am not sure if this symbol will provide more information concerning reversing than the other mechanism already existing in the database. I do not beliee that the proposed symbol is good, I am not sure whether there was a contact symbol or an antenna symbol as basis. NO for further validation.
I can agree to discuss the introduction of reversing in the keyword related to the relevant symbols.
Conclusion by the Secretary: The opinions on the inclusion of this symbol is 50/50 (including the proposing NC). Based on earlier discussions on the desirability to include some combinations just to get the possibility to include terms and keywords in the database, I have constructed symbol S01413 as a combination of C00069 and C00070. This symbol is submitted for validation. |
