CHANGE REQUEST

Request identity number:

C00292

Applies to:

S01931

Type of request:

Technically new

Request status level:

Resolved

Proposal:

Standardize new graphical symbol for diagrams for representing concept of Bi-mode Insulated Gate Transistor.

Reason:

New semiconductor Bi-mode Insulated Gate Transistor (BIGT) was first presented at ISPSD conference in Barcelona in 2009.
Motivation: Customer request for correct graphical symbol for diagrams for integration in their circuit design schematics and simulation tools. IEC 60617 graphical symbols for IGBT (S00680, S00681, S00682, S00683) are not suitable for representing BIGT.

FI(ARSI): FI NC is in favour of this change request.
CN(GAOYM):CN NC support this change request.
DK (PD): DK NC abstains on this change request.
AT(WOST): AT NC is in favour with this proposal.
NO(KRGJ): NO NC is in favour of this change request.
JP(HIKE): NP NC is in favour to continue this CR by following the SDB content procedure defined in Annex SK.4.4 (not Annex SL) with the comments below.

(1) The position of the arrow heads of the slanting lines in S01931 should be consistent with S00625 and S00627 which are applied in S01931.

Proposed change: To improve the graphical appearance by placing arrow heads at the center rather than at the end of the slanting lines.

(2) In semiconductor graphical symbols, a "vertical line" where the collector(s) and/or emitter(s) are connected (junctioned as semiconductors) is generally considered a single semiconductor region of type N or P (see, for example, S00613, S00626, S00628, S00630). However, both "P-emitter on N-region, S00625" and "N-emitter on P-region, S00627" are junctioned to the "vertical line" in S01931, which causes inconsistency if the vertical line is considered a single semiconductor region.

Proposed change: To avoid misunderstanding, the following new Application Note should be introduced.
"The vertical line represents an object that symbolizes an internal semiconductor circuit, not a single semiconductor region."
SE(S-A L): SE NC is in favour of this change request with the proposed changes as described by the JP NC.

Secretariat Resolution:
Since there are multiple comments for improvement, they should be worked by commenting a new CD in following classical procedure defined in Annex SK 3.2.1 classic procedure.

Comments at validation:

NO(KRGJ): The alternative name needs to be removed.

Voting at validation:

CN(GAOYM):CN NC votes YES
